[28mm] Vehículo Jeep Willys USA – Parte 1

[28mm] Jeep Willys USA Vehicle - Part 1

After making the WWII M3 Halftrack USA transport, of the reconnaissance unit that I am doing, now it is the turn of the Willys jeep.

For this I use the Rubicon Models 280049 box, which is a generic Jeep.

We assemble all the parts that come in the box, but to make a reconnaissance vehicle, prepared with a machine gun.

We printed the vehicle with the same Surfacer Primer US Olive Drab 608 from Vallejo, which I have already used with the previous half-track vehicle.

And the figures with the Surfacer Primer Gris 601 from Vallejo.

Although the machine gun has been painted the Black primer of the same range.

The painting of the crew will be touched on in the next painting phase.

On the jeep, in the end a couple of modifications have been made to the Jeep, such as changing the .50 Caliber for a 1919 .30 Cal. Machine gun, more common in Recon vehicles, the one on the miniatures that sits on it has been eliminated. the SUV box and, above all, a radio has been added.

Note: The .50 Caliber in WWII was a 12.7x99.2mm Anti-aircraft machine gun, not anti-personnel, although in the end, if it was mounted, it was also used against enemy troops. And that is why in the reconnaissance vehicles they carry the 1919 .30 Caliber machine guns, with 7.62x51mm ballistics, the same ammunition used by all the armies for their rifles and rifles (which are still used in machine guns today).

The colors used are the same as those used for the painting of the M-3 Transport Halftrack.

For the control panel, it has been used to find what color it is using images on the internet.

The radio, which is one of the options that come in the kit from the same manufacturer 284082, which is the M3A1 Radio Car Conversion, for the White Scout Car 280083, which will be the next model to be assembled and painted.

This radio is a battalion communications radio, and some color images of this radio can be found on the internet, so it allows me to paint the switches, dial wheels, and connectors as they were.

Once we have the jeep painted as fresh from the factory, the mod machine gun is added. 1919 and the radio antenna.

Decals have also been added. In this case it has the small stars on each side of the vehicle, on the back, the yellow indicator on the bumper to cross bridges, and the large white star on the canvas of the windshield cover.

A couple of historical fun facts.

All the vehicles of the reconnaissance units did not carry the Division, Regiment and Company badges that were worn on the front and rear bumpers, so that the enemy would not know which units they were facing, in case of being captured. These badges, which have not been affixed to the previous vehicle either, were removed by the crew and painted over with the standard USA Olive Green color.

And the other curious fact is that the canvas that normally covers the windshield in reconnaissance jeeps was much wider, since it was used to put backpacks and the like, as an extra protection for the driver and co-pilot, and it was painted a huge white star above it. This is because these vehicles used to always have the windshield lowered so that the machine gun could be effective at ground level and the star was so that their own planes would not mistake them for Germans, since the reconnaissance units were constantly in the forefront and enemy rear.

When the vehicle is dirty and the crew put in place, it will be so.

In the next article, the dirtying of the vehicle and the painting of the crew will be carried out.
