Craters Phase 2, part 1

Hace ya unos cuantos años, en el 2014, realicé una cantidad importante de cráteres, para unas partidas de un escenario de una campaña para Betllground que realizamos, que curiosamente aún no he colocado en mi blog de Las Partidas de Burt.

A few years ago, in 2014, I made a significant number of craters, for some games of a campaign scenario for Betllground that we made, which curiously I have not yet placed in my blog Las Partidas de Burt.

Cuando se terminó la campaña, estos cráteres nunca se terminaron, por lo que ahora es un buen momento para ello.

When the campaign was finished, these craters were never finished, so now is a good time for it.

Y más para hacerlos en el taller abierto que se realizan los viernes en el club +1 al Dau, en Barcelona.

Estos cráteres terminaron, tal como se puede ver en el trabajo anterior o Fase 1, se terminó de aplicar colores y el resultado fue unos cráteres son un terreno rojizo un tanto “carbonizado”.

No está mal, incluso es correcto el color del cráter, pero de cara a una escenografía, queda demasiado oscura.

Como ya indicaba en este artículo se debe añadir una serie de elementos adicionales para hacerlos más atractivos, como es son elementos vegetales (hierba, arbustos, troncos de madera,…), así como otros elementos artificiales, que darán una vistosidad a cada uno de ellos (sacos terreros, tuberías, vigas, asfalto levantado,…).

Por ello decido aplicar uno tonos ocres para aclararlo, para que los siguiente elementos puedan integrarse mejor con los cráteres.

As indicated in this article, a series of additional elements must be added to make them more attractive, such as plant elements (grass, shrubs, wood trunks, ...), as well as other artificial elements, which will give each one of them a look they (sandbags, pipes, beams, raised asphalt, ...).

For that reason I decide to apply one ocher tones to clarify it, so that the following elements can be better integrated with the craters.

Y los colores que he decidido utilizar es el siguiente trio:

- Ocre marrón (Model Color 856-127), para el color más oscuro.

- Alemán Camuflaje Ocre Naranja (Model Color 824-128), para el color intermedio.

- Arena Iraquí (Model Color 819-124), para color más claro.

And the colors that I have decided to use is the following trio:
- Brown ocher (Model Color 856-127), for the darker color.
- German Ocher Orange Camouflage (Model Color 824-128), for intermediate color.
- Iraqi Arena (Model Color 819-124), for lighter color.

El primero a utilizar será el más oscuro, el Ocre Marrón.

The first one to use will be the darker one, the Brown Ocher.

La técnica que utilizo para este color es un entremedio entre el pincel semi seco y el pincel seco; o sea, en las cerdas elimino casi todo el sobrante del color, pero sin eliminar casi por completo el color, como en un pincel seco.

The technique I use for this color is an in between the semi-dry brush and the dry brush; that is, in the bristles I eliminate almost all the excess of the color, but without eliminating almost completely the color, as in a dry brush.

Este color lo aplico en el borde del cráter, de forma abundante, en todo el exterior del cráter y desde la mitad hacia afuera del interior del mismo.

This color I apply on the edge of the crater, abundantly, on the outside of the crater and from the middle out of the inside of it.

Aunque aplicaré el color sobre las piedras prominentes que pueda haber dentro del cráter, para hacerlos resaltar sobre el oscuro del fondo.

Although I will apply the color on the prominent stones that may be inside the crater, to highlight them on the dark background.

Teniendo todos los cráteres pintados se puede ver que es son más ocres.

Having all the painted craters you can see that they are more ocher.

Aunque la diferencia se puede ver claramente al colocar un cráter sin proceder en esta fase (derecha) y el aplicado este ocre oscuro (izquierda).

Although the difference can be clearly seen by placing a crater without proceeding in this phase (right) and the applied this dark ocher (left).

He aplicado el color intermedio, el Ocre Naranja, con la técnica de pincel seco, sobre la misma zona que el Ocre Marrón, colo para dar luces a este nuevo efecto de color que estoy aplicando.

La diferencia se observa en la siguiente foto. A la izquierda un cráter sólo con el Ocre Marrón y a la derecha ya aplicado el Ocre Naranja.

I applied the intermediate color, the Ocher Orange, with the technique of dry brush, on the same area as the Brown Ocher, colo to give lights to this new effect of color that I am applying.

The difference is seen in the following photo. On the left a crater with only the Brown Ocher and on the right the Ocher Orange applied.

Para ver mejor como queda el contraste durante el proceso de pintado, se puede ver en la siguiente fotografía.

To see better how is the contrast during the painting process, you can see in the following picture.

En los cráteres más grandes es donde se ve mejor el contraste y la unión de los dos colores ya aplicados.

In the larger craters is where you can see the contrast and the union of the two colors already applied.

Por último y para darle un toque más luminoso, ha aplicado el Arena Iraquí.

Este color sólo lo he aplicado en los bordes y en alguna piedra grande, como un pincel muy seco.

Finally, and to give it a more luminous touch, he has applied the Iraqi Arena.
This color I have only applied on the edges and on some large stone, like a very dry brush.

Hay que tener mucho cuidado con aplicar el arena iraquí, ya que aun siendo un tono muy similar, el efecto visual de claridad es muy acusado, y podemos estropear el trabajo.

Lo que está claro es que este color sólo es para dar una luz muy contrastada y fuerte.

You have to be very careful with applying the Iraqi sand, because even though it is a very similar tone, the visual effect of clarity is very sharp, and we can spoil the work.
What is clear is that this color is only to give a very contrasted and strong light.

El siguiente paso a realizar será la colocación de diferentes elementos no “vegetales”, en especial en el interior del cráter y algunos en el exterior.

Pero eso lo veremos, como he dicho, en el siguiente trabajo.

The next step will be the placement of different non-vegetable elements, especially inside the crater and some outside.

But we will see that, as I said, in the next work.
