El M3 Semi oruga está terminado pero acabado de salir de fábrica.

Pero es demasiado irreal, ya que con el transcurso de la contienda, el vehículo empieza a estar sucio, desconchado y embarrado.

Por ello ahora le toca la primera parte de los desgastes y ensuciados ambientales.

 

The M3 Halftrack is finished but just out of the factory.

But it is too unreal, since with the course of the contest, the vehicle begins to be dirty, chipped and muddy.

For this reason, now it is the first part of environmental wear and tear.

 

Preparación – Preparation

En el anterior paso, se terminó colocando las calcomanías y perfilando todo a base de washes, sobre barnizado en brillante, para poder colocar las calcas y para que los washes corran hacia donde se tienen que asentar, y que ensucien poco o nada fuera de su destino.

Pero los efectos que se deben hacer ahora, lo importante es que manche allí por donde pase el efecto colocar, por lo que es importante eliminar el efecto brillo. Esto lo realizaremos aplicando Barniz Mate (Auxiliar 520).

 

In the previous step, it was finished by placing the decals and outlining everything based on washes, over gloss varnish, to be able to place the decals and for the washes to run towards where they had to settle, and that they dirt little or nothing outside their destination.

But the effects that must be done now, the important thing is that it stains where the effect goes, so it is important to eliminate the shine effect. We will do this by applying Matte Varnish (Auxiliary 520).

Lo primero que podemos observar al colocar el barniz mate, es la desaparición del contorno de las calcas, tan engorrosas y que suelen malograr el trabajo realizado, en especial cuando ponemos esta miniatura sobre la mesa de juego y siempre acaba nuestra mirada posándose sobre las calcas y su contorno brillante.

 

The first thing that we can observe when placing the matte varnish is the disappearance of the contour of the decals, so cumbersome and that they tend to spoil the work done, especially when we put this miniature on the game table and our gaze always ends by resting on the decals and its bright outline.

Esto se ha conseguido inicialmente en la anterior fase: se pone barniz brillo antes de colocar la calca, y se vuelve a cubrir con el mismo barniz, una vez colocada la calca en su sitio. Pero cuando se puede observar correctamente este resultado es cuando aplicamos barniz mate general en todo el vehículo.

 

This has been achieved initially in the previous phase: gloss varnish is applied before placing the decal, and it is covered again with the same varnish, once the decal is in place. But when this result can be observed correctly it is when we apply general matte varnish all over the vehicle.

 

Para realizar el ensuciado del vehículo blindado, se utilizará el contenido de la caja Weatherin Set for Green Vehicles, del AFV Weatherin System de Vallejo, ya que viene lo básico indispensable para realizar todos los desgastes y ensuciados de un vehículo de estas características.

Aunque para este trabajo se ampliará el rango de pinturas, para aumentar los desgastes y los matices.

 

To dirty the armored vehicle, the contents of the Weatherin Set for Green Vehicles box, from Vallejo's AFV Weatherin System, will be used, since it comes with the essential basics to carry out all the wear and tear on a vehicle of these characteristics.

Although for this work the range of paints will be expanded, to increase wear and tear and nuances.

 

 

Ruedas Delanteras – Front Wheels

A parte de los colores básicos que viene en la caja antes comentada, aplicaremos nuevos colores al desgaste de las ruedas.

 

Apart from the basic colors that come in the box mentioned above, we will apply new colors to the wear of the wheels.

Estos colores son:

- Negro (Model Color 950 – 169), para el repintado de las ruedas delanteras.

- Pardo Negro (Model Color 822 – 150), para filtro en las ruedas.

- Caucho Oscuro (Panzer Aces 306), para luces de las ruedas.

- Arena (Model Air 075), para efecto suciedad.

 

These colors are:

- Black (Model Color 950 - 169), for repainting the front wheels.

- Black Brown (Model Color 822 - 150), for filter on the wheels.

- Dark Rubber (Panzer Aces 306), for wheel lights.

- Sand (Model Air 075), for dirt effect.

 

Como el color Caucho Oscuro aplicado en la fase anterior, no ha terminado de encajar del todo ya que es demasiado claro, se han repintado las ruedas con Negro, pero bastante diluido, ya que hay un uso constante del neumático que hace que surja el color caucho de la rueda.

 

As the Dark Rubber color applied in the previous phase, it has not fully fitted since it is too light, the wheels have been repainted with Black, but quite diluted, since there is a constant use of the tire that makes the color appear wheel rubber.

Con el color Negro bien seco (mínimo 2 horas), preparamos el Pardo Oscuro que viene en el Weathewring Set, para ser aplicado como filtro sobre el negro.

Es importante que el color negro esté bien seco, ya que de lo contrario, al aplicar el filtro, nos llevaremos el negro, arruinando el trabajo realizado.

Otra opción es aplicar una capa de barniz mate sobre lo pintado hasta ahora.

El filtro con el Pardo Negro se realiza mediante la adicción de diluyente o agua, hasta dejar una consistencia ligeramente transparente, pero con pigmento.

 

With the Black color well dry (minimum 2 hours), we prepare the Dark Brown that comes in the Weathewring Set, to be applied as a filter over the black.

It is important that the black color is well dry, since otherwise, when applying the filter, we will take the black, ruining the work done.

Another option is to apply a layer of matte varnish over what has been painted so far.

The filter with the Black Brown is made by adding diluent or water, until leaving a slightly transparent consistency, but with pigment.

Con un pincel plano pequeño, aplicamos generosamente este color en el centro de la rueda, sin llegar a la zona del dibujo de la misma.

 

With a small flat brush, we generously apply this color in the center of the wheel, without reaching the area of the drawing of the wheel.

El efecto lo podemos realizar tantas veces como queramos, siempre que la anterior capa esté bien seca (de nuevo recomendamos algo más de 2 horas), en nuestro caso lo hemos aplicado 3 veces, dándonos el resultado que buscamos.

 

The effect can be done as many times as we want, as long as the previous layer is well dry (again we recommend a little over 2 hours), in our case we have applied it 3 times, giving us the result we are looking for.

Después aplicamos el color Caucho Oscuro, pero solamente en la zona de los dibujos de las ruedas.

El color Arena lo aplicamos con la técnica de la esponja, para dejar un leve rastro, a modo de manchas de barro muy seco.

 

Then we apply the Dark Rubber color, but only in the area of the wheel drawings.

We apply the Sand color with the sponge technique, to leave a slight trace, like very dry mud stains.

 

Esta técnica consiste en usar un trozo de espuma, que podemos utilizar unas pinzas para poder cogerlo sin problemas.

 

This technique consists of using a piece of foam, which we can use with tweezers to be able to take it without problems.

Impregnamos una punta de la espuma con el color Arena, y eliminamos el exceso en una servilleta o similar, para que absorba bien el exceso de pintura y agua.

Con esta pintura escasa, presionamos la zona escogida con la espuma, dejando una porción mínima, que dependiendo del efecto buscado, pueden ser puntos o manchas.

En este caso se ha buscado un efecto más de puntos que de manchas.

 

We impregnate one end of the foam with the Sand color, and we remove the excess on a napkin or similar, so that it absorbs the excess paint and water well.

With this scarce paint, we press the chosen area with the foam, leaving a minimal portion, which depending on the desired effect, can be spots or stains.

In this case, an effect more of dots has been sought than of spots.

El efecto conseguido no es el deseado, pero no lo eliminaremos, dejaremos que seque y lo iremos eliminando con procesos posteriores, para que nos dé la sensación final que buscamos.

 

The effect achieved is not the desired one, but we will not eliminate it, we will let it dry and we will eliminate it with subsequent processes, so that it gives us the final feeling we are looking for.

Una vez terminado el efecto inicial de rueda en uso, pasaremos al desgaste general, más centrado en la llanta que en el neumático.

Para ello se usarán los siguientes colores.

 

Once the initial effect of the wheel in use is finished, we will move on to general wear, more focused on the rim than on the tire.

For this, the following colors will be used.

- Marrón Chocolate (Model Color 872-149), para efecto suciedad.

- Óxido Oscuro (Model Wash 507), primer lavado de óxido.

- Óxido (Model Wash 506), segundo lavado de óxido.

 

- Chocolate Brown (Model Color 872-149), for dirt effect.

- Dark Rust (Model Wash 507), first rust wash.

- Rust (Model Wash 506), second oxide wash.

 

El Color Chocolate lo rebajaremos con una consistencia algo más densa que como se ha hecho anteriormente con el Pardo Negro, ya que se desea obtener un lavado y no un filtro.

 

We will lower the Chocolate Color with a somewhat denser consistency than what has been done previously with the Black Brown, since it is desired to obtain a wash and not a filter.

Este lavado lo aplicamos en la unión de la rueda con la llanta.

 

We apply this wash at the junction of the wheel with the rim.

Al secar este lavado, el efecto que queda es de suciedad acumulada.

 

When drying this wash, the effect that remains is that of accumulated dirt.

Rebajamos un poco más esta mezcla conseguida, convirtiéndola en filtro, y la aplicamos en toda la llanta.

 

We lower this mixture a little more, turning it into a filter, and apply it to the entire rim.

Este nuevo filtro aplicado en la llanta, le confiere unos matices marrones muy interesantes.

Si se hubiese aplicado el filtro realizado antes con Pardo Negro, Hubiese quedado demasiado oscuro para lo que queremos en estos momentos.

 

This new filter applied to the rim gives it some very interesting brown shades.

If the filter made earlier with Black Brown been applied, it would have been too dark for what we want at the moment.

Una vez seco este filtro, se aplican los óxidos, empezando por el Óxido Oscuro, aplicado especialmente en todos los tornillos de forma profusa.

 

Once this filter is dry, the oxides are applied, starting with the Dark Oxide, applied profusely to all the screws.

Dependiendo del efecto buscado, podemos aplicar este lavado varias veces. En nuestro caso, se aplicaron 2 capas de este color.

 

Depending on the desired effect, we can apply this wash several times. In our case, 2 coats of this color were applied.

 

Después aplicamos el Óxido. Como es un color más claro, hay que tener cuidado en aplicarlo, para no eliminar el tono oscuro.

 

Then we apply the Oxide. As it is a lighter color, care must be taken when applying it, so as not to eliminate the dark tone.

La variedad de matices, como se puede ver en la imagen, es muy buena.

 

The variety of shades, as you can see in the image, is very good.

 

 

Orugas – Tracks

El tratamiento de las orugas es diferente a las ruedas, aunque se usan los mismos colores.

El color de caucho de las ruedas de las orugas ya es correcto, por lo que no repintaremos con negro.

Primero cubriremos todas las cadenas de las orugas con un filtro de Pardo Negro, y después aclararemos con otro de Marrón Chocolate, para dar un tono de desgaste muy interesante.

Cuando el color Chocolate está bien seco, aplicamos un lavado general de Lavado Óxido Oscuro a toda la oruga, menos en los Bogies.

 

The treatment of the tracks is different from the wheels, although the same colors are used.

The rubber color of the track wheels is already correct, so we will not repaint with black.

First we will cover all the tracks of the tracks with a Black Brown filter, and then we will clarify with another Chocolate Brown filter, to give a very interesting wear tone.

When the Chocolate color is well dry, we apply a general Dark Rust Wash to the entire track, except for the Bogies.

Este óxido nos da una leve pátina una vez seco.

 

This oxide gives us a slight patina once dry.

Cuando esté seco, aplicaremos el Lavado Óxido.

Una vez seco, tendremos en las oquedades entre eslabones de la oruga una buena cantidad de óxido.

 

When it is dry, we will apply the Rust Wash.

Once dry, we will have a good amount of rust in the holes between the track links.

En las ruedas de los bogies de las orugas, se oxidan de la misma forma que se ha hecho con las cadenas.

Primero se aplica el Óxido Oscuro.

 

On the wheels of the track bogies, they rust in the same way that it has been done with the chains. Dark Rust is applied first.

Aunque parezca exagerado, una vez seco el tono óxido es muy sutil, por lo que se podrá aplicar varias capas, hasta tener el nivel de óxido deseado.

En nuestro M3, se han realizado dos capas.

 

Although it may seem exaggerated, once dry the rust tone is very subtle, so you can apply several layers, until you have the desired level of rust.

On our M3, two layers have been made.

Después se aplica el Óxido, más claro que el anterior. Este lavado, al ser más claro, se aprecia más que el anterior, por lo que se debe tener cuidado con la cantidad a aplicar.

En nuestro M3, sólo se ha aplicado una capa.

 

Then the oxide is applied, lighter than the previous one. This wash, being lighter, is more appreciated than the previous one, so care must be taken with the amount to be applied.

On our M3, only one layer has been applied.

 

 

Desconchones – Chipping

Para realizar desconchones, o zonas despintadas por el roce, se han utilizado estos colores.

 

These colors have been used to make chipping, or areas peeled off by rubbing.

- Gris Negro (Model Color 862-168), para el acero mate sin puntura.

- Verde Refractario (Model Color 890-090), para color de la pintura inferior vista.

 

- Black Grey (Model Color 862-168), for matt steel without puncture.

- Refractive Green (Model Color 890-090), for the lower visible paint color.

 

El Gris Negro lo aplicaremos con esponja, con la misma técnica que se ha indicado antes con el color Arena.

 

We will apply the Black Gray with a sponge, with the same technique that has been indicated before with the Sand color.

El resultado de aplicar este color con la técnica de la esponja es el siguiente.

 

The result of applying this color with the sponge technique is as follows.

Se ha aplicado en los laterales, donde deben ir las mochilas y macutos colgando, ya que el arnés de los mismos irá rozando con la chapa, debido al traqueteo del movimiento del vehículo.

 

It has been applied on the sides, where the backpacks and backpack should be hanging, since their harness will rub against the plate, due to the rattle of the movement of the vehicle.

 

En el capó, que tiene dos puertas una a cada lado para el acceso al motor, se ha querido dar un mayor castigo de desgaste, ya que al ser un vehículo de reconocimiento, la tropa solía ponerse sobre el capó para tener una perspectiva desde algo más altura, y porque el calor del motor solía hacer saltar con demasiada facilidad la pintura.

 

On the hood, which has two doors, one on each side for access to the engine, it has been wanted to give a greater punishment for wear, since being a reconnaissance vehicle, the troops used to stand on the hood to have a perspective from something more height, and because the heat from the engine used to make paint chip too easily.

En los alerones de las ruedas, debido a los constantes roces contra ramas de los caminos y al paso de la tropa que se sube al capó y al constante mantenimiento que estos vehículos tenían por parte de los mecánicos, se ha querido poner más de la cuenta de lo que sería habitual.

 

In the wheel spoilers, due to the constant friction against branches of the roads and the passage of the troops that get on the hood and the constant maintenance that these vehicles had by the mechanics, it has been wanted to put more than the account than would be usual.

La puerta trasera, la de acceso al cajón trasero, tiene un desgaste más particular alrededor de la maneta, para abrir la portezuela, y en los bordes superiores, para cerrarla.

 

The rear door, the access door to the rear drawer, has a more particular wear around the handle, to open the door, and on the upper edges, to close it.

 

También se intensifica un poco el desgaste de los cajones de las lonas, ya que constantemente se estaba abriendo para sacar y poner la lona en la caja del vehículo, bien por lluvia o simplemente para poder pasar la noche cubiertos.

 

The rear door, the access door to the rear drawer, has a more particular wear around the handle, to open the door, and on the upper edges, to close it.

En las puertas del conductor y el copiloto, se trata de la misma forma que la puerta trasera.

Obsérvese que en algunos puntos de los desconchados se ha aplicado pequeñas manchas del Verde Refractario. No es cuestión de colocar grandes cantidades de este color, ya que no se debe hacer un vehículo con mimetizado.

 

On the driver and passenger doors, it is treated in the same way as the rear door.

Note that small stains of Refractory Green have been applied in some points of the chipping. It is not a question of placing large quantities of this color, since a vehicle should not be made with camouflage.

 

 

Aguadas – Drippings

El último efecto que se aplica en esta fase, serán las aguadas.

Normalmente se solía hacer con oleos, con el consiguiente secado de unas 48 horas para proceder a otra técnica o incrementar la realizada, en caso de ser demasiado tenue.

Pero nosotros lo realizaremos con Acrílicas y diluyente para aerógrafo, que nos permite realizar de nuevo la técnica, tras unas 2 horas de secado.

 

The last effect that is applied in this phase, will be the drippings.

Normally it used to be done with oils, with the consequent drying of about 48 hours to proceed to another technique or increase the one carried out, in case it was too light.

But we will do it with Acrylics and thinner for airbrush, which allows us to perform the technique again, after about 2 hours of drying.

Los colores utilizados para este efecto han sido:

- Blanco Titanium (Acrylic Artist Color 303), para los churretones claros.

- Amarillo Hansa Pálido (Acrylic Artist Color 401), para los tonos amarillentos.

- Naranja Claro (Acrylic Artist Color 502), para los tonos ocres.

- Sombra Natural (Acrylic Artist Color 308), para tonos marrones.

- Rojo de Marte (Acrylic Artist Color 306), para tonos rojizos.

- Azul Ultramar (Acrylic Artist Color 46), para tonos oscuros.

- Diluyente para Aerógrafo (Auxiliar 361).

 

The colors used for this effect have been:

- Titanium White (Acrylic Artist Color 303), for light streaks.

- Hansa Yellow Light (Acrylic Artist Color 401), for yellowish tones.

- Cadmium Orange Light (Acrylic Artist Color 502), for ocher tones.

- Raw Umber (Acrylic Artist Color 308), for brown tones.

- Mars Red (Acrylic Artist Color 306), for reddish tones.

- Ultramarine Blue (Acrylic Artist Color 46), for dark tones.

- Airbrush Thinner (Auxiliary 361).

 

NOTA: estos colores están incluidos en el set básico de tubos de 10x20ml de la gama Acrylic Artist Color, de las pinturas de Acrylicos Vallejo tiene para Bellas Artes.

La técnica es exactamente igual que con los óleos.

Primero se depositan pequeñas cantidades de pintura sobre la superficie a trabajar.

 

The technique is exactly the same as with oil paintings.

First, small amounts of paint are deposited on the surface to be worked.

Con un pincel plano humedecido con Diluyente para aerógrafo, se pasa de arroba abajo, hasta que sólo se nota el color, en leves lineas, cobre el color verde del vehículo.

 

With a flat brush moistened with Airbrush Thinner, go from at to down, until only the color is noticeable, in slight lines, copper the green color of the vehicle.

 

En el  lateral derecho, la parte donde está la estrella es algo más oscura que los lados de la misma, que domina el tono blanco y amarillo, pero en los extremos sonmás oscuros y rojizos.

 

On the right side, the part where the star is is somewhat darker than the sides of it, which dominates the white and yellow tone, but at the ends they are darker and reddish.

En el otro lateral se ha preferido dejar los tonos rojizos y marrones algo más marcados.

 

On the other side, it has been preferred to leave the reddish and brown tones somewhat more marked.

La zona posterior del vehículo, el centro de la puerta es mucho más clara, y las cajas de lonas tienen diversos tonos y matices.

 

The rear area of the vehicle, the center of the door is much lighter, and the canvas boxes have various shades and hues.

El capó se ha trabajado un tanto diferente, ya que se ha intensificado el color blanco en las puertas de acceso al motor, mientras que la plancha fija central se ha hecho lo mismo pero con amarillo y ocre.

 

The hood has been worked a bit differently, since the white color on the engine access doors has been intensified, while the central fixed plate has been done the same but with yellow and ocher.

Obsérvese la diferencia de tono entre los alerones de las ruedas, el de la izquierda más amarillento y el de la derecha más blanquecino, así como los chorretones rojizos de este último.

 

Note the difference in tone between the wheel ailerons, the one on the left more yellowish and the one on the right whitish, as well as the reddish streaks of the latter.

 

En el siguiente artículo trataremos la segunda parte del ensuciado, en especial grasas, óxidos, barro y polvo.
