Napoleonic Neapolitan
Line Infantry
En esta ocasión he estado pintando parte de un encargo que
me ha realizado el fabricante de miniaturas de 15mm Campaign Games Miniatures.
Se trata del pintado de infantería del Reino de Nápoles, con
uniforme de 1811, que todavía
no está en catálogo.
This time I have been painting part of a
commission that the 15mm miniature manufacturer Campaign Games Miniatures has
made me.
It is the painting of the infantry of the
Kingdom of Naples, with a uniform from 1811, which is not yet in the catalog.
Tras la invasión de Napoleón en la península Itálica,
Napoleón entrego el Reino de Nápoles en 1808 a su mejor general, como
reconocimiento a su gran trabajo: General Joaquín Murat. A parte de ser su
cuñado.
Las tropas napolitanas eran un contingente importante dentro
de las tropas extranjeras de las que Napoleón podía contar para enviarlas al
frente.
Murat decide unificar y actualizar el uniforme de sus
tropas, ya que todavía llevan el corte y diseño de finales del s. XVIII (Siglo
18). A más, reordeno los regimientos, dándole una gran importancia a los 8
primeros regimientos, también fueron los más conocidos,
El uniforme pasó de ser de diferentes colores e indicadores
visuales, a ser todos con uniforme blanco y con diferenciación de color de
pechera, puños y vueltas, según el regimiento.
After Napoleon's invasion of the Italian
peninsula, Napoleon gave the Kingdom of Naples in 1808 to his best general, in
recognition of his great work: General Joaquín Murat. Apart from being his
brother-in-law.
The Neapolitan troops were an important
contingent within the foreign troops that Napoleon could count on to send to
the front.
Murat decides to unify and update the uniform
of his troops, since they still wear the cut and design of the late s. XVIII

importance to the first 8 regiments, they were also the best known,
The uniform went from being of different colors
and visual indicators, to being all with a white uniform and with
differentiation of color of chest, cuffs and cuffs, according to the regiment.

A más del Regimiento de Velites, o Guardia Real, la guardia
personal de Murat, también en color Rojo, pero con diferencias en los
identificadores y su mayor numero de granaderos en sus filas.

In addition to the Velites Regiment, or Royal
Guard, Murat's personal guard, also in Red, but with differences in the
identifiers and the greater number of grenadiers in his ranks.
Para las unidades de línea he optado por realizar los 3
últimos regimientos, el 6º, el 7º y el 8º.
Para el pintado de estas unidades de línea, he utilizado
bastantes colores, aunque la creencia generalizada es que las miniaturas
napoleónicas a esta escala se pueden pintar con pocos colores, la realidad es
bien distinta.
For the line units I have chosen to carry out
the last 3 regiments, the 6th, the 7th and the 8th.
For the painting of these line units, I have
used quite a few colors, although the general belief is that Napoleonic
miniatures at this scale can be painted with few colors, the reality is quite
different.

El color se imprimación usado es el color negro (Surface
Primer 602), para aerógrafo. Imprimar en negro las miniaturas de 15mm me ahorra
tiempo en el pintado posterior y si me dejo algún recodo sin pintar, debido a
su dificultad para poder hacer llegar un pincel, quedará como una sombra oscura
y no afeará el resultado final. A más que me permite realizar un perfilado a la
vez que aplico el color base.
The primer color used is black (Surface Primer
602), for airbrushing. Priming the 15mm miniatures in black saves me time in
the subsequent painting and if I leave a corner unpainted, due to its
difficulty in getting a brush, it will remain as a dark shadow and will not
ugly the final result. In addition, it allows me to outline while applying the
base color.
PIEL – SKIN
Para el pintado de la piel se ha usado:
Carne Medio (Model color 860 – 021).

For painting the skin has been used:
Medium Fleshtone (Model color 860-021).

Primero aplico el color base Carne Medio. Una vez bien seco,
aplico el Lavado Carne, para dar las sombras.
Con la base oscura de
la piel, ya que el lavado ha hecho también de filtro, se aplican las lices
generales de nuevo con el Carne Medio.
La siguiente luz, marcando dedos, envés de las manos, nariz,
pómulos, barbilla y orejas, es el Carne Oscura.
Por último se aplican puntos de luz con el Carne Base. He
aplicado estos puntos de luz en punta de la nariz, barbilla y algunos puntos de
las manos, como las puntas de los dedos, cuando están cogiendo el mosquete por
debajo.
First I apply the Medium Fleshtone base color.
Once dry, I apply the Fleshtone Shade, to give the shadows.
With the dark base of the skin, since the
washing has also acted as a filter, the general lices are applied again with
the Medium Fleshtone.
The next light, marking fingers, undersides of
hands, nose, cheekbones, chin, and ears, is Dark Flesh.
Finally, points of light are applied with the
Base Skintone. I have applied these points of light on the tip of the nose,
chin and some points of the hands, such as the tips of the fingers, when they
are holding the musket underneath.
Después de aplicar el color uniforme, que lo explico un poco
más adelante, me percato que el 7º Regimiento, denominado el Africano, todos
sus soldados, incluidos mandos, eran esclavos de color convertidos en soldados.
After applying the uniform color, which I will

Para aplicar el color de piel oscura, he usado:

Sobre el color base Pardo Medio, se aplica el Lavado sombra
a modo de filtro, y para dar sombras.
Las luces se aplican primero con el mismo Pardo Medio,
después con el Pardo Claro mezclado al 50% con el Pardo Medio, y como puntos de
luz, aplicado en los mismos sitios que con el Carne Base de los soldados
“blanquitos”, he usado el Pardo Claro sin mezclar.
On the base color Medium Brown, the Umber Wash
is applied as a filter, and to give shadows.
The lights are applied first with the same Medium
Brown, then with the Pale Brown mixed 50% with the Medium Brown, and as points
of light, applied in the same places as with the Base Skintone of the “white”
soldiers, I have used unmixed Light Brown.
UNIFORME – UNIFORM
Color General – General Color
El uniforme, menos los distintivos de regimiento, es todo
blanco.
Los colores usados han sido:
Gris Plateado (Model Color 883 – 152).
Gris (Model Wash 516).
Gris Oscuro (Model Wash 517).
Blanco Sucio (Game Color 101).
Blanco Pergamino (Model Color 820 – 004).
The uniform, minus the regimental badges, is all
white.
The colors used have been:
Silvergrey (Model Color 883 - 152).
Grey (Model Wash 516).
Dark Grey (Model Wash 517).
Off White (Game Color 101).
Off White (Model Color 820 - 004).
He aplicado el Gris Plateado como color base. Este color o
alguno ligeramente más oscuro, lo aplico como color base sobre la imprimación
negra, para que los siguientes colores puedan verse claros.
Sobre este color base he aplicado el Lavado Gris, a modo de
filtro y para marcar absolutamente todas las sombras y pliegues de la ropa.
Para las sombras más profundas y oscuras, he usado el Gris
Oscuro, que aunque sea un lavado lo he aplicado como color, sólo en los lugares
que me han interesado se vea oscuro de verdad, como la entre pierna, bajo
brazos y zona de contacto del brazo con el cuerpo.
Para las luces primero he usado el mismo Gris plateado, para
iluminar todo lo que no sean sombras. Posteriormente he usado el Blanco Sucio
mezclado al 50% con el Gris Plateado y diluido. La tercera luz ha sido el
Blanco Sucio sin mezclar y muy diluido, pero sólo en las crestas de los
pliegues.
Por último y aplicado como luz cenital, he aplicado el
Blanco Pergamino, también muy diluido.
I have applied Silvergrey as the base color.
This color or a slightly darker one, I apply it as a base color over the black
primer, so that the following colors can look light.
On this base color I have applied the Grey
Wash, as a filter and to mark absolutely all the shadows and folds of the
clothes.
For the deepest and darkest shadows, I have
used Dark Gray, which even if it is a wash I have applied as a color, only in
the places that have interested me it really looks dark, such as between the
legs, under arms and the contact area arm with body.
For the lights I have first used the same
Silvergrey, to illuminate everything that is not shadows. Subsequently I have
used the Off White (Game Color) mixed 50% with the Silvergrey and diluted. The
third light has been the unmixed and very diluted Off White (Game Color), but
only on the ridges of the folds.
Finally and applied as overhead light, I have
applied the Off White (Model Color), also very diluted.
Colores Distintivos –
Distinctive Colors
Como he indicado al principio, he pintado unidades de linea
y escaramuzas del 6º, 7º y 8º regimiento. Un buen ejemplo de como se distinguen
los diferentes regimientos, lo tenemos en esta imagen conseguida de Internet.
As I indicated at the beginning, I have painted

6º Regimiento – 6th
Regiment
El Regimiento de Nápoles tiene como color distintivo el
naranja.
Para poder representar este color, he utilizado:
Óxido (Game Effects 131).
Naranja Claro (Model Color 911 – 022).
Carne
Dorada (Model Color 845 – 020).
The Naples Regiment has orange as its
distinctive color.
In order to represent this color, I have used:
Rust (Game Effects 131).
Light Orange (Model Color 911-022).
Sunny Skin Tone (Model Color 845 - 020).
Para los colores de distintivo de regimiento, he usado el
Óxido, de la caja de Special Effects de Vallejo, como naranja oscuro y base del
color. He aplicado el Naranja Claro para las luces generales y el Carne dorada,
mezclado en diferentes porcentajes, para las luces más extremas y los puntos de
luz cenitales.
For the regimental badge colors, I have used Rust,
from Vallejo's Special Effects box, as a dark orange and base color. I have
applied the Expensive Light Orange for the general and the Sunny Skin Tone,
mixed in different percentages, for the more extreme lights and the zenith
highlights.
7º Regimiento – 7th
Regiment
El Regimiento Africano tiene como color distintivo el
amarillo.
Para poder representar este color, he utilizado:
Amarillo Dorado (Model Color 948 – 016).
Amarillo Intenso (Model Color 915 – 014).
Amarillo
Limón (Model Color 952 – 011).
The African Regiment's distinctive color is
yellow.
In order to represent this color, I have used:
Golden Yellow (Model Color 948 - 016).

Igual que con el 6º regimiento, el color base para los
distintivos ha sido el Amarillo Dorado, que a la vez sirve de sombra. Después
he aplicado el Amarillo Intenso diluido, como luz general, y por último el
Amarillo Limón para las luces más extremas y los puntos de luz cenitales.
As with the 6th regiment, the base color for
the badges has been Golden Yellow, which in turn serves as a shade. Then I
applied the diluted Deep Yellow, as a general light, and finally the Lemon

8º Regimiento – 8th

El Regimiento del Principe Luciano tiene como color
distintivo el rosa.
Para poder representar este color, he utilizado:

distinctive color of pink.

He utilizado como color sombra Púrpura como el color base,
sobre el que aplico el Rosa pulpo como luz general. Para las luces más intensas
y los puntos de luz cenitales, he usado el Blanco Sucio mezclado en un 30% con
el Rosa Pulpo al 70%.
I have used Warlord Purple as the base color as
the shadow color, on which I apply Squid Pink as a general light. For the
brightest lights and zenith highlights, I have used Off White mixed 30% with
Octopus Pink 70%.
5º Regimiento – 5th
Regiment
Para estos regimientos también se ha pintado un escaramuza,
que se emplaquetará individualmente, que llevarán los colores correspondientes
al regimiento, pero con el cuello amarillo, el pompón del Shakó y las hombreras
verdes.
Pero como he pintado 4 escaramuzas el 4º lo he pintado del
5º Regimiento, de Calabria, cuyo color es un verde oliva, y he usado:
Oliva Medio (Model Color 850 – 081).
Verde Oliva (Model Color 967 – 082).
Oliva
Dorado (Model Color 857 – 079).
For these regiments a skirmish has also been
painted, which will be individually packaged, which will be in the colors
corresponding to the regiment, but with the yellow collar, the Shakó pompom and
the green shoulder pads.

CORREAJE - BELTING
Como las correas son de color blanco, he optado por usar el
blanco puro como luz para dar un contraste con el blanco del uniforme.
Los colores usados son:
Gris Plateado (Model Color 883 – 152).
Blanco (Model
Color 951 – 001).
As the straps are white, I have chosen to use
pure white as a light to give a contrast to the white of the uniform.

Primero aplico como base el Gris Plateado. El blanco lo
aplico para dar una luz a las correas y que se vea más luminosa que el resto
del uniforme.

the uniform.
MOCHILA Y MANTA – BACKPACK AND BLANKET
Los Napolitanos llevan mochila marrón y manta gris.
Para representarlo he utilizado:

Carne Dorada (Model Color 845 – 020).
Cuero Rojo (Model Color 818 – 136).

A la mochila le aplico el Marrón Bicho como color base.
Después aplico el lavado sombra, como filtro, para oscurecer el color y aplicar
sombras. Y vuelvo a aplicar el Marrón Bicho a modo de 1ª luz general.
Para las siguientes luces, mezclo el Carne Dorada con el
Marrón Bicho, primero en 20% – 80%, diluido, y posteriormente, para puntos de
luz intenso en un 50%.
Finalmente aplico el Cuero Rojo como color base en las
correíllas de cierre de la mochila, y mezclado con Carne dorada para las luces.
To the backpack I apply Beasty Brown as the
base color. Then I apply the Umber Wash, as a filter, to darken the color and
apply shadows. And I apply the Beasty Brown again as a general 1st light.
For the following lights, I mix the Sunny Skin
Tone with the Beasty Brown, first in 20% - 80%, diluted, and later, for intense
light points in 50%.
Finally I apply the Red Leather as a base color
on the closing straps of the backpack, and mixed with Sunny Skin Tone for the
lights.
Para el pintado de la manta he aplicado el Gris Basalto como
color base. Para el perfilado general he usado el Lavado Negro y el Gris Marina
como luz cenital, bastante diluido.
For the painting of the blanket I have applied
Basalt Grey as the base color. For the general outlining I have used the Black
Wash and the Dark Sea Grey as overhead light, quite diluted.
Las correas blancas se han aplicado igual que para el
correaje general del uniforme, primero el Gris Plateado como base y las luces
con el Blanco.
The white straps have been applied the same as
for the general strapping of the uniform, first the Silvergrey as a base and
the lights with the White.
CARTUCHERA Y FUNDA
BAYONETA – CARTRIDGE AND BAYONET COVER
Estos elementos son de cuero rígido negro en todos los
ejércitos de la época.
Por ello he utilizado:
Gris Aleman (Model Color 995 – 167).
Lavado Negro (Gae Wash 201).
Gris Oscuro (Model Color 994 – 166).

These items are stiff black leather in all
armies of the time.
For this reason I have used:

El Gris Alemán se aplica como color base, el lavado Negro se
aplica sólo para las sombras. Para las luces primero aplico el Gris Oscuro muy
diluido y para los puntos de luz, se aplica el Gris Basalto.
German Grey is applied as the base color, the
Black wash is applied only for the shadows. For the lights I first apply the
very diluted Dark Grey and for the light points, the Basalt Grey is applied.
CANTIMPLORA – CANTEEN
Se ha optado por pintar en color madera las cantimploras.
Para ello he usado:
Uniforme japonés (Model Color 923 – 117).
Madera
Caoba (Model Color 828 – 182).
We have chosen to paint the canteens in wood.
For this I have used:
Japane uniform WWII (Model Color 923 - 117).
Woodgrain (Model Color 828 - 182).
Primero aplico el Uniforme Japones, pero sin mucho
miramiento ni de forma uniforme, ya que al aplicar el Madera Caoba c modo de
filtro, se consigue un curioso efecto a madera.
First I apply the Japan Uniform WWII, but
without much consideration or uniformly, since when applying the Woodgrain as a
filter, a curious wood effect is achieved.
MOSQUETE – MUSKET
El arma característica de las guerras napoleónicas fue el
mosquete.
Para pintarlo he utilizado:
Madera Nueva (Panzer Aces 311).
Lavado Sombra (Game Wash 203).
Gris Plateado (Model Color 883 – 152).
Blanco (Model Color 951 – 001).
Acero engrasado (Model Color 865 – 177).
Lavado Negro (Game Wash 201).
Cromo (Metal Color 707).
Bronce (Model Color 998 – 175).
Oro Viejo (Model Color 878 – 173).
The characteristic weapon of the Napoleonic
wars was the musket.
To paint it I have used:
New Wood (Panzer Aces 311).
Umber Wash (Game Wash 203).
Silvergrey (Model Color 883 - 152).
White (Model Color 951 - 001).
Oily Steel (Model Color 865 - 177).
Black Wash (Game Wash 201).
Chrome (Metal Color 707).

Pinto con el Madera Nueva toda la parte de la madera de los
mosquetes, que oscurezco con un filtro realizado con el Lavado Sombra y aplico
de nuevo el Madera Nueva para las luces.
Antes de aplicar los metalizados, pinto con Gris Plateado
las correas y aplico luces con el Blanco.
Ahora es cuando aplico el Acero Engrasado. Para el perfilado
del acero con la madera, he utilizado el Lavado Negro. Para las luces, aplico
puntos de luz con el Cromo.
I paint with the New Wood all the part of the
wood of the muskets, which I darken with a filter made with the Umber Wash and
I apply the New Wood again for the lights.
Before applying the metallics, I paint the
straps with Silvergrey and apply highlights with the White.
Now is when I apply the Oily Steel. For the
profiling of the steel with the wood, I have used the Black Wash. For the
lights, I apply points of light with the Chrome.
En el caso del escaramuza del 6º Regimiento, está
baqueteando el fusil para cargarlo. La baqueta se ha pintado con Bronce y se le
ha dado un punto de luz con el Oro Viejo.
In the case of the 6th Regiment skirmish, he is
ramrodring the rifle to load it.
The ramrod
has been painted with Bronze and a point of
light has been given it with Old Gold.
SHAKÓ Y ZAPATOS – SHAKO AND SHOES
Para pintar estas prendas, he utilizado los siguientes
colores:

Primero aplicamos Negro en la visera y parte superior del
Shakó y en los zapatos. Para las primeras luces he aplicado el Gris Oscuro,
diluido para que sea fluido y no espeso. Después aplico una línea fina en los
bordes del Shakó con el Gris Marina y por último y sólo en la visera, un punto
de luz con el Gris Plateado. No he querido aplicar blanco ya que la intención
es que la vista no se nos vaya a ese punto de una forma directa.

direct way.
Estas miniaturas llevan el Shakó forrado con tela, por lo
que deberemos representar la tela que llevaban para que no se llenara de polvo.
En imágenes que se puede encontrar por Internet, todos coinciden en que es
marrón oscuro.
Para ello primero se aplica el color Desierto, como color
base, y después el Ocre Verde, pero sólo en las crestas de los pliegues de la
tela. Para oscurecer el conjunto y aplicar sombras, se le da un filtro con el
Lavado Sombra.
These miniatures have the Shako lined with
fabric, so we must represent the fabric they were wearing so that it does not
get dusty. In images that can be found on the Internet, everyone agrees that it
is dark brown.
To do this, first apply the Desert Yellow color,
as the base color, and then the Green Ochre, but only on the ridges of the
folds of the fabric. To darken the set and apply shadows, it is given a filter
with the Umber Wash.
Una vez tengo los Shakós pintados, aplicaré los colores de
los pompones, para indicar a que batallón corresponden.
Como no me queda claro el color a cada batallón, he optado

fehaciente de ello, se puede usar los colores habituales en regimientos
napoleónicos de blanco, amarillo, rojo y azul para 1º, 2º, 3º y 4º batallón
respectivamente.
