1/40 Ford Woody - Part 4, Wood Trims.
El
Ford Woody, así como una serie de vehículos familiares Made in USA de la decada
de 1940, se caracterizaron por tener unos embellecedores de madera en los
laterales y en el portón trasero.
Incluso
el marco que soportaba estas piezas de madera eran pintados de un color muy
diferente al resto del vehículo, para que destacaran.
Este
artículo trata como se ha pintado estos embellecedores.
The Ford
Woody, as well as a number of Made in USA station wagons from the 1940s, were
characterized by wooden trims on the sides and tailgate.
Even
the frame that supported these pieces of wood were painted a very different
color from the rest of the vehicle, to make them stand out.
This
article deals with how these trims have been painted.

En la parte 3 terminamos los interiores, pero no se pudo
colocar el salpicadero, ya que faltaba por pintar los cristales del vehículo.
In part 3 we finished the interiors, but the
dashboard could not be fitted, as the vehicle windows had to be painted.
No es demasiado trabajo a realizar, y para poder colocar los
embellecedores, primero debe estar colocado esta pieza.
Para el pintado de la pieza se han utilizado tres únicos
colores.
It is not too much work to do, and in order to
place the trims, this piece must be in place first.
For the painting of the piece only three colors
have been used.
- Negro (Model Color 950-169).
- Acero Engrasado (Model Color 865-177).
- Lavado Sepia (Game Color Wash 200).
- Black (Model Color 950-169).
- Oily Steel (Model Color 865-177).
- Sepia Shade (Game Color Wash 200).
El Negro se ha utilizado para pintar las escobillas de los
limpiaparabrisas y el Acero Engrasado, para las varillas de los mismos.
Black has been used to paint the wiper blades
and Greased Steel for the wiper blades.
El Lavado Sepia se ha utilizado para “oxidar” los cromados
de las ventanillas.
Sepia Shade has been used to “rust” the chrome
on the windows.
Una vez pintado, se colocará en su posición.
Once painted, it will snap into position.
Una vez colocada la pieza de los cristales, se puede colocar
sin dificultad el salpicadero.
Once the glass part has been fitted, the
dashboard can be easily fitted.
Y ya tenemos todo el interior montado y en su sitio.
And we already have the entire interior
assembled and in place.
El cristal aparentemente no encaja bien, pero está
desplazado respecto al marco de la carrocería, para que cuando se coloquen los
embellecedores de madera, encaje todo correctamente.
The glass apparently does not fit well, but it
is offset from the body frame, so that when the wood trims are attached,
everything fits correctly.

Madera - Wood Trim
Para pintar los marcos de los embellecedores de madera, se
han utilizado los siguientes colores.
To paint the wood trim frames, the following
colors have been used.
- Marrón Amarillo (Model Color 912-122), como color base de
los perfiles del marco de las maderas.
- Beige (Model Color 917-008), para las primeras luces.
- Amarillo Caqui (Model Color 976-120) para las segundas
luces.
- Lavado Sombra (Game Color Wash 203), para los perfilados y
sombras.
- Arena Clara (Model Color 837-007), para las luces
extremas.
- Gris Negro (Model Color 862-168), para el picado de la
pintura en el perfil.
- Acero Engrasado (Model Color 865-177), para el metal al
descubierto.
- Chromo (Metal Color 707), cromados
- Lavado Sepia (Game Color Wash 200) ensuciado de manetas
cromadas.
- Óxido Claro (Panzer Aces 301), para puntos de óxido.
- Óxido Claro (Model Wash 505), lavados y filtros de óxido.
- Tan Yellow (Model Color 912-122), as the base
color of the wood frame profiles.
- Beige (Model Color 917-008), for the first
lights.
- Buff (Model Color 976-120) for the second
lights.
- Umber Wash (Game Color Wash 203), for
outlines and shadows.
- Pale Sand (Model Color 837-007), for extreme
lights.
- Black Grey (Model Color 862-168), for
chopping the paint on the profile.
- Oily Steel (Model Color 865-177), for bare
metal.
- Chromo (Metal Color 707), chrome
- Sepia Shade (Game Color Wash 200) with dirty
chrome handles.
- Light Rust (Panzer Aces 301), for rust spots.
- Light Rust (Model Wash 505), rust washes and
filters.
Para pintar los marcos del embellecedor y no manchar la zona
de madera, se ha usado enmascarador Vallejo de 3mm (Hobby Tools 7004)
To paint the trim frames and not stain the wood
area, a 3mm Vallejo masker (Hobby Tools 7004) has been used
Es un producto flexible, engancha bien por los bordes de la
cinta y es fácilmente cortable con una cuchilla de modelismo.
It is a flexible product, it hooks well on the
edges of the tape and is easily cut with a modeling knife.
Primero se aplica Marrón Amarillo a todos los perfiles. Es
el mismo color base que se ha utilizado para el salpicadero y la parte interior
de las puertas delanteras.
Tan Yellow is applied to all profiles first. It
is the same base color that has been used for the dashboard and the inside of
the front doors.
La primera luz a aplicar, mezclado con el Marrón Amarillo,
es el Beige.
The first light to apply, mixed with the Tan Yellow,
is Beige.
La segunda luz a aplicar, mezclada con la mezcla obtenida
antes, es el Amarillo Caqui. Con este color se aplican luces planas en bordes
superiores y laterales (no en los bordes inferiores).
The second light to apply, mixed with the
mixture obtained before, is Buff. With this color, flat lights are applied to
the top and side edges (not the bottom edges).
Para dar un aspecto un poco más ajado, más sucio, se empieza
aplicando un Lavado Sombra en las depresiones y se hace un perfilado, para
separar las diferentes planchas.
También se aplica en los tornillos, para poder
diferenciarlos.
To give a slightly more weathered, dirtier
appearance, you start by applying a Shadow Wash to the depressions and
outlining it to separate the different plates.
It is also applied to the screws, to be able to
differentiate them.
La última luz a aplicar, y la más extrema, es el Arena
Clara, pero sólo a modo de luz cenital.
The last light to apply, and the most extreme,
is Arena Clara, but only as an overhead light.
Ya tenemos los perfiles de los marcos de los embellecedores
desgastados y algo sucios.
Pero el aspecto que se quiere dar a este vehículo, es de
mucho más dejado, sin estar abandonado, por lo que pasamos a la fase de
oxidación.
El primer paso es poner Gris Negro aplicado con la técnica
de la esponja, pero incidiendo en las partes que más tocan las manos.
Obsérvese que en el portón trasero se ha incidido en los
bordes de las dos piezas del portón, el superior con los cristales, y el
inferior.
Y seguido, se aplican puntos aleatorios de Acero Engrasado,
para que aparezca el metal al descubierto.
We already have the profiles of the trim frames
worn and somewhat dirty.
But the appearance that you want to give this
vehicle is much more left, without being abandoned, so we go to the oxidation
phase.
The first step is to apply Black Grey applied
with the sponge technique, but focusing on the parts that most touch the hands.
Note that on the tailgate the edges of the two
pieces of the tailgate, the upper one with the glass, and the lower one, have
been incised.
And then, random dots of Oily Steel are
applied, to reveal the bare metal.
En la maneta y en la guía de las ventanilla de las puertas
laterales, se aplica primero Acero Engrasado y una luz en Chromo, en especial
en las manetas internas ya que vienen sin pintar.
Una vez seco el color metálico, se aplica un Lavado Sepia,
para dar el efecto sucio y oxidado del cromo.
Oily Steel and a Chromo light are applied first
to the handle and the side door window guide, especially to the internal
handles as they come unpainted.
Once the metallic color is dry, a Sepia Shade
is applied, to give the dirty and rusty effect of chrome.
Para el óxido, se aplica el Óxido Claro de Panzer Ace en
puntos aleatorios, en especial en los tornillos y algún punto donde se ha
aplicado el Acero Engrasado anteriormente.
For rust, Panzer Ace Light Rust is applied at
random spots, especially on the screws and at some point where Greased Steel
has been previously applied.
Estos puntos de óxido no deben ser excesivos.
Se aplica una pátina de Wash Óxido Claro en uniones, juntas
y zonas que por efecto de la lluvia, se haya podido quedar el agua estancada y
alrededor delos tornillos.
These rust spots should not be excessive.
A patina of Light Oxide Wash is applied to
joints, joints and areas that due to the effect of rain, stagnant water may
have remained and around the screws.
Ya se tienen los laterales de los embellecedores terminados.
Ahora solo queda retirar la cinta de enmascarar.
The sides of the trims are already finished.
Now it only remains to remove the masking tape.
Y ya está listo para pintar la madera.
And you are ready to paint the wood.
Por diversas circunstancias, se han montado los
embellecedores antes de aplicar el color madera efecto gastado.
For various reasons, the trims have been
mounted before applying the worn-out wood color.
Para el color de madera envejecida por el sol, pero sin
estar plenamente expuesta a él, se utilizan los siguientes colores, que ya se
han usado en anteriores piezas de madera, como barriles a escala 1/12 o muebles
a escala 28mm.
- Primero se aplica una capa uniforme de Tierra Mate (Model
Color 983-143) a toda la zona de las maderas.
- Una vez bien seco el color Tierra Mate, se aplica una capa
de filtro oscuro con el Tinte Humo (Game Color 068).
- El efecto de veteado de la madera se realiza, aplicando
líneas con el mismo Tierra Mate.
- Con el veteado realizado, se vuelve a colocar un segundo
filtro con Tinte Humo, pero más diluido.
- Para imitar la madera desgastada por el sol, se ha optado
por usar Arena Oscura (Model Color 847-123), en vez de tonos grises. Este color
se aplica como un filtro, pero con el color muy diluido.
- Para terminar, y con el Arena Oscura bien seca, se vuelve
a aplicar una nueva capa de filtro de Tinte humo muy diluido.
For the color of wood aged by the sun, but
without being fully exposed to it, the following colors are used, which have
already been used in previous pieces of wood, such as 1/12 scale barrels or
28mm scale furniture.
- First, a uniform layer of Flat Earth (Model
Color 983-143) is applied to the entire area of the woods.
- Once the Flat Earth color has dried, a dark
filter layer is applied with Smokey Ink (Game Color 068).
- The wood grain effect is carried out by applying
lines with the same Flat Earth.
- With the veining done, a second filter with Smokey
Ink is put back, but more diluted.
- To imitate wood worn by the sun, we have
chosen to use Dark Sand (Model Color 847-123), instead of grey tones. This
color is applied like a filter, but with the color very diluted.
- To finish, and with the Dark Sand very dry,
apply a new filter layer of very diluted Smokey Ink.
