[Die Cast] 1/40 Ford Woody - Part 1, Body.
Hace algo más de un mes, hace 7 artículos, comenté que
quería empezar un nuevo proyecto que era convertir un juguete infantil, de los
que se pueden adquirir en las tiendas de suministros asiáticos, en una maqueta
sólo con un adecuado pintado de envejecido y desgaste ambiental (Weathering), y
el conseguir un Ford Woody
a 1/40 de la marca Kinsmart, el que
se ve en la imagen de portada, era la excusa perfecta para empezar con este
proyecto que tengo en mente desde hace más de 5 años.
A little over a month ago, 7 articles ago, I commented that I wanted to
start a new project that was to convert a children's toy, from those that can
be purchased in Asian supply stores, into a model only with a suitable aged and
wear paint Environmental (Weathering), and getting a Ford Woody at 1/40 of the Kinsmart brand, which is seen in the
cover image, was the perfect excuse to start this project that I have had in
mind for more than 5 years.
Lo primero que se debe hacer, es desmontar completamente el juguete.
Para ello lo primero es extraer los tornillos que sujetan todas las piezas e ir
sacándolas una a una.
The first thing to do is to completely
disassemble the toy. For this, the first thing is to remove the screws that
hold all the pieces and remove them one by one.
Esta operación puede ser un tanto complicada en algunos
juguetes, ya que aunque la mayoría están a presión, en mucho de los casos los
encajes de muchas de las piezas no son precisamente precisos, por lo que se ha
calentado el plástico para fijarlo en su posición, en especial las que son
exteriores, como faros y parachoques. Por ello se debe tener mucho cuidado de
no romper la pieza.
Hace años ya me pasó con un 4x4 de juguete, que deseaba
tunearlo de civil a militar, que al final tuve que tirar por haber roto
“demasiadas” piezas.
De “aciertos/errores” es como el ser humano mejor aprende.
This operation can be somewhat complicated in
some toys, since although most are pressurized, in many cases the fittings of
many of the pieces are not precisely accurate, so the plastic has been heated
to fix it in place , especially those that are exterior, such as headlights and
bumpers. Therefore, great care must be taken not to break the part.
Years ago it happened to me with a toy 4x4,
which I wanted to tune from civilian to military, which in the end I had to
throw away for having broken “too many” pieces.
From "successes / mistakes" is how
the human being learns best.
Una vez separadas las piezas, tenemos el conjunto despiezado
y listo para trabajar con el juguete.
Nota: En este juguete las puertas están colocadas sobre unos
ejes que han sido “remachadas”, por lo que sacarlas de su posición, se puede
correr el riesgo de romper los ejes, cosa que me paso hace años con un 4x4, por
lo que he optado por dejarlas sin sacar.
Once the pieces are separated, we have the
assembly exploded and ready to work with the toy.
Note: In this toy, the doors are placed on
axles that have been “riveted”, so taking them out of their position may risk
breaking the axes, something that happened to me years ago with a 4x4, so I
have chosen to leave them without removing.
Descolorido de
pintura - Colorless paint
Lo primero que se debe hacer es aplicar barniz mate. Para
ello se ha utilizado Barniz Acrílico Mate en espray (Auxiliar 531), ya que es
rápido de aplicar y da muy buenos resultados.
The first thing to do is apply matte varnish.
For this, Matte Acrylic Varnish in spray (Auxiliary 531) has been used, since
it is quick to apply and gives very good results.
El aplicar el barniz mate es por un doble motivo: por un
lado eliminados el brillo del vehículo, que es lo primero que desaparece en
cuanto descuidamos un coche, en especial por el polvo y por el desgaste de la
luz solar, y por el otro lado son el acabado brillante todos los efectos lo que hagamos sobre él, resbalarán y afearán
el trabajo.
Applying the matte varnish is for a double
reason: on the one hand, the shine of the vehicle has been eliminated, which is
the first thing that disappears as soon as we neglect a car, especially due to
dust and the wear and tear of sunlight, and on the other side are the glossy
finish all the effects what we do on it, they will slip and ugly the work.
Ahora le toca el turno a realizar aguadas al vehículo.
Por norma general, muchos maquetistas usan óleos para estas
técnicas, ya que es lo que siempre se ha utilizado y permite trabajar durante
más tiempo antes de secarse. Su principal inconveniente es que tarda mucho en
secar y, para evitar problemas por la impaciencia, se suele barnizar entre
color y color.
Para ir rápido lo mejor es utilizar los Acrylic Artist Color
de Vallejo, que combinados con el Diluyente para Aerógrafo (Auxiliar 361), nos
permite trabajar el tiempo más que suficiente para conseguir el mismo efecto
que con óleo, con la ventaja que a los 20 minutos de haber aplicado un color,
ya podemos aplicar el siguiente, sin necesidad de dar una capa de barniz mate
(aunque sí que es aconsejado).
Now it is the turn to wash the vehicle.
As a general rule, many model makers use oils
for these techniques, since this is what has always been used and allows them
to work longer before drying. Its main drawback is that it takes a long time to
dry and, to avoid impatience problems, it is usually varnished between colors.
To go fast the best thing is to use Vallejo
Acrylic Artist Color, which combined with the Airbrush Thinner (Auxiliary 361),
allows us to work more than enough time to achieve the same effect as with oil,
with the advantage that at 20 minutes after applying a color, we can now apply
the following, without the need to apply a coat of matte varnish (although it
is recommended).
Como lo que se desea es dar un efecto de descolorido, se
aplicarán colores cálidos y claros. Como el coche es rojo, lo que no se debe
aplicar es u color rojo más claro, ya que siempre deja un efecto raro y poco
creíble. Si el coche fuese azul (por ejemplo), yo aplicaría los mismos colores
cálidos y claros, y nada de tonos azules claros, ya que desvirtúa ese efecto de
color desvaído por el sol, dando una sensación de descascarillado. Aunque este
efecto como mejor se consigue es con blanco poco diluido y después un mapping
con azul oscuro muy diluido sobre el blanco, no con azul más claro que el base.
Sólo debemos observar coches que podemos ver aparcados con estos efectos o
invertir tiempo en Internet buscando estos efectos.
Since it is

would apply the same warm and light colors, and no light blue tones, since it

Although this effect is best achieved with slightly diluted white and then a
mapping with very diluted dark blue on white, not with lighter blue than the
base. We should only observe cars that we can see parked with these effects or
invest time on the Internet looking for these effects.
El primer color claro y cálido a aplicar será un ocre
pálido, por lo que el Naranja Claro (Artist Color 502) es un tono muy acertado.

a pale ocher, so Light Orange (Artist Color 502) is a very successful shade.
El vehículo que se ha a realizar no debe dar la sensación de
abandonado, sino de dejadez, aunque en funcionamiento, por lo que el color lo
debemos aplicar muy diluido, ya que se
debe notar pero no ver.
The vehicle
to be made should not give the feeling of abandonment, but rather of neglect,
although in operation, so the color must be applied very diluted, since it should be noticed but not seen.
Este color lo aplicamos por las zonas que queremos dar el
efecto de color desvaído, como por ejemplo el techo y el capó que son planos
horizontales, y algo en los alerones y en el portón trasero, aunque poco, ya
que está inclinado y no horizontal.
This color is applied to the areas that we want
to give the faded color effect, such as the roof and hood that are horizontal
planes, and something on the spoilers and on the tailgate, although little,
since it is inclined and not horizontal .
Este color es el que más superficie debe pintar, aunque no
se debe pintar los bordes del techo, ni la parte vertical de los alerones.
También se ha dejado sin aplicar este naranja en la parte centran del capó,
pero esto último es opcional.

Lo dejamos secar unos 20 minutos, lo suficiente para que el
siguiente mapping a aplicar no se lleve esta capa.
Durante el proceso, al estar tan diluido y mojado, no vemos
realmente el resultado como quedará. Una vez seco, ya se puede ver que el
pigmento de la pintura nos da el efecto buscado.
We let it dry for about 20 minutes, enough so
that the next mapping to apply does not take this layer.
During the process, being so diluted and wet,
we don't really see the result as it will be. Once dry, you can already see
that the pigment in the paint gives us the desired effect.
El siguiente color a aplicar es el Hansa Pálido (Artist
Color 401).
The next color to apply is Hansa Pale (Artist
Color 401).
Este color se diluirá exactamente igual que el naranja
anterior.
This color
will be diluted exactly the same as the previous orange.
Y se aplicará en las mismas zonas que el naranja, que
cubriendo una superficie menor, ya que el color naranja debe verse más en los
bordes del mapping anterior y este amarillo en la zona central.

orange, covering a smaller surface, since the orange color should be seen more
at the edges of the previous mapping and this yellow in the central area.
El descolorido empieza a ser creíble y muy considerable.

Por último se aplica el Blanco Titanio (Artist Color 303).
Finally, Titanium White (Artist Color 303) is
applied.
Este tono nos da la sensación de color totalmente desvaído,
y es el punto de color previo al descascarillado, pero que no deseamos llegar a
él.

Perfilados y
óxidos - Profiles and oxides
El punto de pintura descascarillada, que se ven los bordes,
no se desea tener.
Pero el efecto de pintura desaparecida por rozadoras,
desgaste o pequeños golpes, si que se va a realizar, ya que se puede aplicar un
punto de óxido que dará un matiz interesante al conjunto.
Para ello se utilizarán los siguientes colores.
The peeling paint spot, which the edges show,
is undesirable to have.
But the effect of paint disappeared by
grinding, wear or small blows, if that is going to be done, since a point of
rust can be applied that will give an interesting nuance to the set.
For this, the following colors will be used.
- Barniz Satinado (Auxiliar 522).
- Lavado Negro (Model Wash 518).
- Gris Negro (Model Color 862-168).
- Gun Metal (Model Color 863-179).
- Óxido Oscuro (Panzer Aces 302).
- Óxido Claro (Panzer Aces 301).
- Satin Varnish (Auxiliary 522).
- Black Wash (Model Wash 518).
- Black Gray (Model Color 862-168).
- Gun Metal (Model Color 863-179).
- Dark Rust (Panzer Aces 302).
- Clear Rust (Panzer Aces 301).
Primero se aplica barniz satinado en toda la carrocería.
Ahora se necesita que la pintura corra por la pieza y se deposite en las
ranuras. El barniz brillante es excesivo para esta pieza y estropearía el
resultado de lo ya realizado, pero también porque los vehículos, por muy dejado
que se tenga, siempre tiene un punto de brillo de la pintura original. Ya se
matará ese brillo de forma irregular con pigmentos, más adelante en otra fase
que ya se indicará, pero no en el actual artículo.
El barniz satinado se aplica con aerógrafo, para evitar que
se noten pinceladas.
First, satin varnish is applied to the entire
body. Now the paint needs to run down the piece and settle into the grooves.
The glossy varnish is excessive for this piece and would spoil the result of
what has already been done, but also because the vehicles, no matter how much
they are left, always have a point of brightness of the original paint. That
brightness will already be killed irregularly with pigments, later in another
phase that will be indicated, but not in the current article.
The satin varnish is applied with an airbrush,
to avoid brush strokes.

Una vez bien seco el barniz satinado (personalmente me gusta
dejar reposar el barniz como mínimo una noche entera o de un día para otro), se
aplica el Lavado Negro para los perfilados del capó.
Once the satin varnish is dry (I personally
like to leave the varnish to rest for at least an entire night or overnight),
apply the Black Wash for the hood profiles.
Al haber aplicado el barniz satinado, el pigmento del lavado
se deposita en la ranura casi sin dejar mancha.
En el caso de que el pigmento del lavado no se introduzca en
la ranura y manche una zona no deseada, se pasa un poco de diluyente para
eliminar ese pigmento.
Having applied the satin varnish, the washing
pigment is deposited in the groove with almost no stain.

into the groove and stain an unwanted area, a little diluent is passed to
remove that pigment.
Ahora se tiene el capó perfilado, por lo que da el efecto de
ser una pieza independiente del resto de la carrocería.

Además de las ranuras del capó, se aplica perfilado en el
embellecedor cromado superior del capó, en los embellecedores cromados de los
alerones y en lo que será la reparación de los paneles de madera y la
carrocería.
También se aplica el lavado negro en las ranuras del portón
trasero, pero sin eliminar el exceso, a que además de perfilar, se está dando
un efecto de suciedad que después será interesante.
In addition to the hood grooves, profiling is
applied to the upper chrome hood trim, chrome spoiler trims, and what will be
the repair of wood panels and bodywork.
The black wash is also applied in the slots of
the tailgate, but without removing the excess, since in addition to profiling,
it is giving a dirt effect that will later be interesting.
Con una esponja, de las que vienen en los blíster de las
miniaturas, y Gris Negro, se realiza una especie de manchado. Para ello se
eliminará el exceso, manchando antes en una hoja de papel, para dejar sólo
rastros leves y pequeños sobre la carrocería.
With a sponge, the kind that comes in the
blister packs of the miniatures, and Gray Black, a kind of staining is
performed. To do this, the excess will be removed, staining before on a sheet
of paper, to leave only slight and small traces on the body.
Esta técnica se aplica en zonas que podemos prever en la que
habrá un mayor desgaste, bien por un continuo posado de manos, bien por golpes
que pueda recibir el vehículo durante su circulación (gravilla que salta desde
la rueda de otro vehículo), bien por estar aparcado.
Un dato a tener en cuenta, los coches anteriores al año 1980
(aunque hay modelos americanos posteriores), las chapas de la carrocería eran
de hierro y no de aleación de aluminio, como la inmensa mayoría de los
vehículos actuales.
This technique is applied in areas that we can
foresee in which there will be greater wear, either due to a continuous laying
of hands, or due to blows that the vehicle may receive during its movement
(gravel that jumps from the wheel of another vehicle), or due to be parked.
A fact to take into account, the cars before
the year 1980 (although there are later American models), the body plates were
made of iron and not aluminum alloy, like the vast majority of current
vehicles.

difícilmente se adhiere al metal.

También un Seat 850, de 1969, esté más por el placer de
tener un clásico, que constantemente debía estar aplicando cera o barniz ante
cualquier arañazo o picadura de la gravilla que saltaba de otros coches, ya que
la pintura saltaba con gran facilidad y se oxidaba rápidamente, de un día para
otro, solo con la humedad que puede haber en Barcelona en pleno mes de Julio, o
en cualquier población a primera línea de playa. La pintura y el metal
utilizado para estos coches de bajo coste no era, precisamente, de alta
calidad.

The Gun Metal color has been chosen because it
is a shade of dark steel.
This metal color is applied in the form of
stippling on the Dark Gray in the areas where it is expected that there will be
more friction with the hands such as the sides, in the front parts due to the
effect of the constant hitting of gravel in the vehicle, such as the front of
the hood and roof, among others.
Los colores óxido se colocan también con la técnica del
punteado, sobre lo pintado en Gris Negro. Si queremos dar un punto más creíble,
lo aplicaremos al lado del Gun Metal.
The oxide colors are also placed with the
stippling technique, on top of what is painted in Black Gray. If we want to
give a more credible point, we will apply it to the side of Gun Metal.
Por cierto, el Gun Metal, dependiendo del ángulo de la luz y
de la cámara, en las imágenes se ve como unas manchas negras, o más oscuras que
el Gris Negro.
By the way, Gun Metal, depending on the angle
of the light and the camera, in the images looks like black spots, or darker
than Black Gray.
La carrocería del vehículo ya está terminada de pintar.
The vehicle body is already finished painting.
Sólo le faltará aplicar un poco de efecto gasolina en la
entrada del depósito (que se ha aplicado más tarde y no hay foto específica de
ello, lo siento) y el empolvado general con pigmentos, que se realizará una vez
esté montado todas las partes del vehículo.
You only need to apply a little gasoline effect
at the entrance of the tank (which has been applied later and there is no
specific photo of it, sorry) and the general powdering with pigments, which
will be done once all the parts of the vehicle.
