La 3ª parte del trabajo de pintado de este M-3 semioruga del ejército Norteamericano, presentado por el fabricante Rubicon Models, consiste en el perfilado a base de Washes y la colocación de las calcas.
The 3rd part of the painting work of this M-3 half-track of the North American army, presented by the manufacturer Rubicon Models, consists of the profiling based on Washes and the placement of the decals.
Preparación – Preparation
Para poder trabajar con los Wash correctamente, y posteriormente con las calcas, se cubre en su totalidad con barniz brillante, aplicado con barniz brillante, pero sin aplicar en los interiores de ruedas y orugas.
To be able to work with the Wash correctly, and later with the decals, it is completely covered with gloss varnish, applied with gloss varnish, but not applied to the interior of the wheels and tracks.
El motive de cubrir toma la maqueta con este barniz y no con mate, es para que los wash que se aplicarán después, tienen que fluir hacia las ranuras y bordes de los salientes, sin manchar el resto de zona.
The reason for covering takes the model with this varnish and not with matte, it is so that the washes that will be applied later have to flow towards the grooves and edges of the projections, without staining the rest of the area.
Lavados – Washes
Existe una diferencia entre Wash, Filtro y Dipping
El Wash, o lavado, es una pintura suficientemente diluida, pero con mucho pigmento, que sirve para perfilar los cambios de planos y relieves en las miniaturas, sean figuras o vehículos, aplicándolo con un pincel muy fino en las zonas que se desea que exista ese perfilado o que se resalte una zona texturada. En el caso de terrenos, sirve para aplicar matices en áreas. Los hay de infinidad de colores y tonos. Su aplicación es fácil de usar, muy controlado y si se retira el exceso, da un efecto de profundidad muy bueno.
El Filtro es parecido al Wash, pero mucho más diluido, casi tanto como para realizar veladuras. Sirve para conseguir una variación de tono ya aplicado anteriormente sobre la miniatura. Se aplica normalmente con un pincel plano o con aerógrafo, cubriendo totalmente el área a variar el tono. También es una técnica muy controlada.
El Dipping es como un Wash, menos diluido y más espeso, pero con menos pigmento, normalmente de tonos amarronados, que sirve para que aparezcan sombras de forma rápida, poco controlada, aunque dando una sensación de suciedad. Se suele aplicar por inmersión de la miniatura, aunque también se puede aplicar con pincel plano. Es perfecto para los pintores de figuras que empiezan a pintar y desean tener un ejército pintado de forma rápida y apto para tenerlo a distancia sobre el tablero de juego.
Son tres técnicas diferentes, que se deben usar en situaciones determinadas y para usos determinados.
There is a difference between Wash, Filter and Dipping
Wash is a sufficiently diluted paint, but with a lot of pigment, which is used to outline the changes of planes and reliefs in the miniatures, be they figures or vehicles, applying it with a very fine brush in the areas where you want that outline or a textured area is highlighted. In the case of land, it is used to apply shades in areas. There are infinite colors and tones. Its application is easy to use, very controlled and if the excess is removed, it gives a very good depth effect.
The Filter is similar to the Wash, but much more diluted, almost as much as to make glazes. It is used to achieve a variation of tone already applied previously on the miniature. It is normally applied with a flat brush or with an airbrush, completely covering the area to vary the tone. It is also a very controlled technique.
Dipping is like a Wash, less diluted and thicker, but with less pigment, usually in brownish tones, which serves to make shadows appear quickly, with little control, although giving a feeling of dirt. It is usually applied by immersion of the miniature, although it can also be applied with a flat brush. It is perfect for figure painters who are beginning to paint and want to have an army painted quickly and suitable for remote control on the game board.
They are three different techniques, which must be used in certain situations and for certain uses.
Los Washes a utilizar en esta fase, son:
- Verde Oliva (Model Wash 519), para sombras.
- Verde Oscuro (Model Wash 512), para perfilados.
- Tierra Engrasada (Model Wash 521), para primero matices de suciedad en boogies rapas de suelo.
The Washes to use in this phase are:
- Olive Green (Model Wash 519), for shadows.
- Dark Green (Model Wash 512), for profiles.
- Oiled Earth (Model Wash 521), for first nuances of dirt in ground boogies.
Para los bajos del vehículo, desde el interior de las ruedas y orugas, se utiliza primero el Verde Oliva y después el Tierra Engrasada
For the underbody of the vehicle, from the inside of the wheels and tracks, the Olive Green is used first and then the Oiled Earth
Es Verde Oliva se usa a modo de filtro, allí donde no se ha aplicado el barniz brillante, en donde van las ruedas y las orugas, así como en las ruedas de las orugas y en las minas guardadas en los laterales del vehículo.
It's Olive Green is used as a filter, where the glossy varnish has not been applied, where the wheels and tracks go, as well as on the track wheels and in the mines stored on the sides of the vehicle.
También se aplica en las llantas de las ruedas delanteras.
It also applies to the rims of the front wheels.
El Tierra Engrasada se aplica sobre el verde una vez esté seco.
The Oiled Earth is applied on the green once it is dry.
El Verde Oscuro se utiliza para perfilar.
Dark Green is used for profiling.
Se utiliza para perfilar las separaciones de las planchas, así como remaches y asas.
It is used to outline the partitions of the plates, as well as rivets and handles.
Cuando se coloca el Wash, se tiene que ir eliminando el exceso que no ha quedado en la posición que se desea.
Esta eliminación se realiza con un pincel humedecido con Diluyente Aerógrafo (Auxiliar 361).
When the Wash is placed, the excess that has not remained in the desired position must be eliminated.
This removal is done with a brush moistened with Airbrush Thinner (Auxiliary 361).
El Wash Verde Oscuro se aplica también en el interior, tanto en la radio, sin usarlo como filtro, ya que podría estropear el trabajo realizado anteriormente, y especialmente se perfilan los asientos y respaldos.
The Dark Green Wash is also applied to the interior, both on the radio, without using it as a filter, as it could spoil the work done previously, and especially the seats and backs are outlined.
Y no se debe olvidar el cubrir, esta vez sí que a modo de filtro, las chapas de suelo de la caja donde se sienta la tropa y los conductores.
And one should not forget to cover, this time as a filter, the floor plates of the box where the troops and drivers sit.
En otra fase estas zonas ya se ensuciarán y se gastarán.
In another phase these areas will already be dirty and worn out.
Se debe incidir nuevamente en especial en las juntas entre las planchas de blindaje y puertas.
It is necessary to focus again especially on the joints between the armor plates and doors.
El frontal se remarca bastante, en especial las piezas del torno de arrastre.
The front is quite remarkable, especially the parts of the towing lathe.
Los Jerry Cans y las herramientas, no deben estar exentas de este wash.

Del uso de los Wash, tampoco se libran las piezas que están separadas.

Calcas – Decals
Una vez bien secos los washes, unas 24h después, se procede a colocar las calcas.
Once the washes are well dry, about 24 hours later, the decals are placed.
Para ello se utiliza:
- Barniz brillante (Auxiliar 510), que volveremos a aplicar sobre las zonas a colocar la calca.
- Decal Fix (Auxiliar 213), para fijar las calcas.
- Decal Medium (Auxiliar 212), para ablandar las calcas y que se adapten a la superficie.
For this you use:
- Glossy varnish (Auxiliary 510), which we will reapply on the areas to place the decal.
- Decal Fix (Auxiliary 213), to fix the decals.
- Decal Medium (Auxiliary 212), to soften the decals and make them adapt to the surface.

Pero ya se solucionará este inconveniente en la fase de Weathering, como si fuesen desconchados.
Just indicate that the placement of these decals has been an ordeal, since almost all have been broken during the placement process, some even three times (different decals to be placed in the same position), having to find a substitute among the decals that I have for other purposes. Something that personally had not happened to me for many years, at least so many decals at the same time. This is usually due to the fact that the decal is rigid, which is why it breaks when bending or moving during installation, and not very flexible, since even placing the softened ones, they break when adapting it to the existing texture under the decal.
But this problem will be solved in the Weathering phase, as if they were chipped.
