Tanker Magazine nº 3 "Dust and Dirt"
El retraso de este artículo ha sido motivada por haber llevado una semana un tanto compleja, y no por el pintado de las figuras de 15mm napoleónics que más de uno ya habeis visto alguna imagen en las RRSS, sino por mi otro trabajo de Consultor TIC, que me ha requerido también un tiempo extra para colaborar en varios artículos temáticos de digitalización.
The delay of this article has been motivated by having taken a somewhat complex week, and not by the painting of the 15mm Napoleonic figures that more than one of you have already seen an image on Social Networks, but by my other job as an ICT Consultant , which has also required me extra time to collaborate on various thematic articles on digitization.
Pero centrémonos en el maquetismo.
Por falta de tiempo, voy a hablar de uno de los elementos que tengo en mi biblioteca, y el borrador del artículo creado hace ya bastante tiempo. Y porque hace ya mucho tempo también que no hago un artículo con alguno de mis referentes bibliograficos.
En esta ocasión no es un libro, sino una revista, el TANKER nº 3, de 2015, de 106 páginas.

Due to lack of time, I am going to talk about one of the elements that I have in my library, and the draft of the article created a long time ago. And because it has also been a long time since I have written an article with any of my bibliographic references.
This time it is not a book, but a magazine, TANKER No. 3, 2015, 106 pages.
Esta revista la adquirí, junto con otras revistas que hablan exclusivamente de polvo, de cara a la creación del M-163 Vulcan, y para ser usado en otros vehículos.
Aun conociendo las técnicas, siempre me ha interesado saber como lo hacen otros maquetistas, por si su forma de hacerlo me puede resultar más facil que la que realizo.
I acquired this magazine, along with other magazines that talk exclusively about dust, for the creation of the M-163 Vulcan, and to be used in other vehicles.
Even knowing the techniques, I have always been interested in knowing how other model makers do it, in case their way of doing it can be easier than the one I do.
La revista está separada en dos bloques bien diferenciados. Por un lado tenemos los trabajos de modelistas más o menos conocidos, y por otro la explicación de la aplicación de técnicas, justamente la parte que a mi más me interesa, aunque encuentro muy interesantes algunos de los trabjos que exponen en el primer bloque.
The magazine is separated into two well differentiated blocks. On the one hand we have the work of more or less known modellers, and on the other the explanation of the application of techniques, precisely the part that interests me the most, although I find some of the works that are exposed in the first block very interesting.

Una maqueta a 1/24 en la que se puede ver un coche patrulla de la policía, muy típico de los años 60’s, presentado como si estuviese abandonado al más puro estilo post-apocalíptico.
Un trabajo de oxidación característico de un vehículo abandonado de hace muchos años a la intemperie de una zona seca y poco lluviosa, más propio de las zonas desérticas de Texas.

Un ISU-122 siempre es un buen aliciente para leer el artículo, más cuando la imagen de la portada muestra un tanque ensuciado aparentemente en su justa medida.

Un modelo de Rubén González en él se puede ver el paso a paso de la gradación, o modulación, aplicación de filtros correctamente, con el uso de disolvente para su difuminación, muy de agradecer siempre, en especial cuando el acabado es exquisito. Y toda la parte de cicatrices de guerra y enguarrado.
Sobre esto último, el embarrado que nos explica en paso a paso, indicando incluso el tipo de pincel a usar en cada caso, es interesante. Incluso indica el añadir gravilla fina ferroviaria, machacada y sin machacar, nos sirve para añadir más realismo al indicar visualmente que ha estado por zona pedregosa, aunque para mi gusto es un poco en demasía, ya que está puesto este efecto por todo el blindado, como si se le hubiese caído un derrumbe de edificio encima.

Mi parecer, es que todo este bloque es parco en información y con muy pocas páginas.
En cuanto exista un libro o revista que trate bien y con cantidad de PaP todo lo que son productos y técnicas, muchos maquetistas, tanto noveles como con gran experiencia, lo adquiriríamos.
El saber no tiene espacio para que aprendamos más allá de lo que creemos saber.
My opinion is that this entire block is sparse in information and with very few pages.
As soon as there is a book or magazine that treats well and with a quantity of PaP all that are products and techniques, many model makers, both new and highly experienced, would acquire it.
Knowing has no room for us to learn beyond what we think we know.

Esta revista me recuerda mucho a la antigua “Modelismo & Maqueta”, en los 80’s, un referente en el mundo del maquetismo, en el que explicaban paso a paso como se hizo cada uno de los modelos que aparecían, pero Tanker sin entrar en detalle de como se hace la técnica comentada. En este sentido era más como “Modelismo & Historia”, otro referente, de los años 70’s, que el maquetista no terminaba de explicar las técnicas utilizadas.
Es una revista que adquirí para tener una amplitud de conocimientos sobre empolvado, como he indicado al principio, pero que me dejó un poco decepcionado. Unas imágenes muy nítidas, un constante PaP y unos muy buenos maquetistas, pero se le podía haber sacado más, incluso sin necesidad de poner tantos modelos y haber ampliado el bloque de productos y técnicas, hasta como poco el 50% de la revista.
En resumen diré que es una revista con muy buenas intenciones, buen producto visual, buena calidad de impresión y papel, nada caro, ya que sólo 9,- € es realmente increíble tener una revista de esta calidad a este precio.
Pero para mí no ha terminado de mostrar todo lo que se puede llegar a conseguir con el tema de polvo y suciedad (que esto último se ve poco, realmente). Veo que le falta un poco para adentrarse realmente en materia, respecto a lo que busco en una revista o libro.
This magazine reminds me a lot of the old "Modeling & Model Making", in the 80's, a reference in the world of model making, in which they explained step by step how each of the models that appeared was made, but Tanker without going into detail of how the commented technique is done. In this sense, it was more like “Modeling & History”, another reference, from the 70's, that the model maker did not finish explaining the techniques used.
It is a magazine that I acquired to have a breadth of knowledge about powdering, as I indicated at the beginning, but it left me a little disappointed. Very sharp images, a constant PaP and some very good model makers, but more could have been taken out of it, even without having to put so many models and have expanded the block of products and techniques, up to at least 50% of the magazine.
In summary I will say that it is a magazine with very good intentions, good visual product, good print and paper quality, nothing expensive, since only 9, - € it is really incredible to have a magazine of this quality at this price.
But for me it has not finished showing everything that can be achieved with the subject of dust and dirt (that the latter is rarely seen, really). I see that it lacks a bit to really get into the subject, with respect to what I look for in a magazine or book.
