Part 9. Rust.
En esta parte del trabajo, se ha aplicado un poco de óxido
al vehículo.
Pero antes de seguir, debemos tener una clara una
peculiaridad de este vehículo, que el maquetista debe tener en cuenta.
In this part of the work, a little rust has
been applied to the vehicle.
But before continuing, we must have a clear
peculiarity of this vehicle, which the model maker must take into account.
Todos los vehículos en base al modelo M-113, como lo es el
M-163 y mucho otros que los Estados Unidos han suministrado a cientos de
ejércitos en todo el planeta, es que son de aleación de aluminio.
Dicho esto así no parece tener mayor importancia que la de
reducir el peso total del blindado, por lo que con un motor adecuado, el
consumo es menor y la autonomía del mismo, mucho mayor.
Pero a nivel de maquetismo esto debemos tenerlo muy en
cuenta, ya que el óxido del aluminio y de sus aleaciones, es un polvillo blanco
y no la corrosión naranja que produce el hierro.
Y es por ello que sólo podemos aplicar el óxido en las
partes que sabemos que son de hierro.
También debemos tener en cuenta que Kuwait es un país que
está en la costa del golfo Pérsico, por lo que el ambiente salino está
asegurado y este ataca rápidamente al hierro, por lo que la oxidación, sin
exceso, siempre aparece, como ya pasó en los vehículos que estuvieron en el
conflicto bélico del Norte de África en la 2GM
All vehicles based on the M-113 model, such as
the M-163 and many others that the United States has supplied to hundreds of
armies around the world, are made of aluminum alloy.
That said, it does not seem to be more
important than reducing the total weight of the armored vehicle, so that with a
suitable engine, the consumption is lower and the autonomy of the vehicle is
much greater.
But at the level of design this must be taken
into account, because the rust of aluminum and its alloys, is a white powder and
not the orange corrosion that produces iron.
And that is why we can only apply the rust in
the parts that we know are made of iron.
We must also bear in mind that Kuwait is a
country that is on the coast of the Persian Gulf, so the saline environment is
assured and this quickly attacks the iron, so that oxidation, without excess,
always appears, as happened in the vehicles that were in the conflict of North
Africa in the WWII

escape - Rust in exhaust pipes
La humedad, el calor y la corrosión del humo de la
combustión es tan fuerte, que estos elementos no son de aluminio, sino de
hierro, para que resistan más tiempo.
Y es en ellos donde deberemos incidir el mayor ataque de
óxido.
The humidity, heat and corrosion of combustion
smoke is so strong that these elements are not made of aluminum, but of iron,
so that they resist longer.
And it is in them where we must influence the
greatest rust attack.
El material utilizado para el óxido ha sido:
- Textura de Óxido (Weathering Efectts 821), como base de
los tubos de escape y respiración.
- Óxido Claro (Panzer Aces 301), para óxido intermedio.
- Óxido Amarillo (Panzer Aces 303), para óxido reciente.
- Óxido (Model Wash 506), para derrame del óxido.
The material used for the rust has been:
- Rust texture (Weathering Efectts 821), as the
basis of the exhaust and breathing pipes.
- Light Rust (Panzer Aces 301), for
intermediate rust.
- Yellow Rust (Panzer Aces 303), for recent rust.
- Rust (Model Wash 506), for rust spillage.
Se aplica la textura de óxido con mesura y sin ser extremo.
Personalmente aconsejo se miren imágenes por Internet que
pueden verse estos tubos de escape y salidas de humos, en los que siempre están
oxidados.
The texture of the rust is applied sparingly
and without being extreme.
Personally I advise you to look at images on
the Internet that you can see these exhaust pipes and smoke exits, where they
are always rusted.
Lo primero que se oxidará son los pequeños tubos extractores
de humos internos.
The first thing to be oxidized are the small
internal smoke extractor tubes.
Se usa el efecto Textura de Óxido de Vallejo, ya que tiene
la textura adecuada, ni sólo color ni con un grano demasiado grueso, y el color
del óxido antiguo que nos permite aplicarla con pincel como color base, pero
texturizado.
The Vallejo Rust Texture effect is used, since
it has the right texture, not only color nor with a too thick grain, and the
color of the old rust that allows us to apply it with a brush as a base color,
but textured.
Al tubo de escape se le aplica la textura en pequeñas
porciones, en especial cerca de la boca de salida de humos.
The texture is applied to the exhaust pipe in
small portions, especially near the smoke outlet.
El color a aplicar posteriormente es el Óxido Claro.
En mi caso, y debido a las imágenes que he observado, se ha
cubierto casi completamente las salidas de humo con este color.
The color to apply later is the Clear Rust.
In my case, and due to the images I have
observed, smoke outlets with this color have been almost completely covered.
El tubo de escape, en donde se ha aplicado la textura, se
cubre el centro de las manchas con este color más claro.
The exhaust pipe, where the texture has been
applied, covers the center of the stains with this lighter color.
Por último, y en pequeñas manchas, se aplica el Óxido
Amarillo.
En el caso de las salidas de humos, se aplican manchas cerca
del agujero de salida, y en el codo de la misma, como indicativo de ser la zona
más caliente de todas.
Finally, in small spots, the Yellow Rust is
applied.
In the case of fumes, stains are applied near
the exit hole, and in the elbow of the same, as an indication of being the
hottest zone of all.
En el tubo de escape hago pequeñas manchas con este color
más claro, justo en el centro de la anterior pintura.
In the exhaust pipe I make small spots with
this lighter color, right in the center of the previous painting.
Y por último, se coloca una gota de lavado Óxido en la base
de las salidas de humo, a modo de óxido derramado, debido a la humedad
condensada o al agua de cuando lavan el blindado.
And finally, a drop of rust washing is placed
at the base of the smoke outlets, in the form of spilled rust, due to the
condensed humidity or the water of when washing the armored.
Y en el tubo de escape, aplico el wash sólo por la zona de
salida de humos.
And in the exhaust pipe, I apply the wash only
through the exhaust area.
Recomiendo no aplicar en exceso el lavado, y mucho menos
aplicarlo a modo de aguadas, ya que no sería muy real en este vehículo.
I recommend not to over-apply the wash, let
alone apply it as a wash, since it would not be very real in this vehicle.
Otros Puntos - Other
places
Los elementos más pronunciados donde aplicar óxidos en este
vehículo, es el los tubos de escape.
Pero hay más elementos de hierro, no de aluminio, en el
vehículo
Como por ejemplo los ejes de las escotillas.
A ellos y a todo lo restante, se aplica de la misma forma
que se ha explicado con los tubos de escape, pero en una proporción mucho más
ínfima.
The most pronounced elements where to apply
oxides in this vehicle, is the exhaust pipes.
But there are more elements of iron, not
aluminum, in the vehicle
As for example the axes of the hatches.
To them and to all the rest, it is applied in
the same way that has been explained with the exhaust pipes, but in a much
smaller proportion.
Las bisagras son otro de los elementos no de aluminio que
también sufren el óxido.
Se debe tener en cuenta que la humedad salina del mar
cercano, se filtra especialmente en las partes móviles.
The hinges are another of the non-aluminum
elements that also suffer from rust.
It must be taken into account that the saline
moisture of the nearby sea is filtered especially in the moving parts.
En la torreta, donde está el Vulcan, me he permitido alguna
libertar artística, para dar un poco más de “dramatismo” al conjunto.
Por ello en la base “soldada” del soporte del radar, se ha
aplicado óxido, especialmente con el lavado.
In the
turret, where is the Vulcan, I have allowed some artistic freedom, to give a
little more " dramatism" to the whole.
Therefore,
in the "welded" base of the radar support, rust has been applied,
especially with washing.
Lo tornillos de la estructura, también has recibido su dosis
de óxido.

Como se puede observar, no se ha exagerado el efecto, sino
que se ha aplicado para que se vea de una forma sutil.
As you can see, the effect has not been
exaggerated, but it has been applied to make it look subtle.
Las ruedas, aun siendo de aluminio, no han estado exentas,
en especial los tornillos de hierro de estas. Para ello he aplicado un lavado
muy diluido y sólo en algunas zonas, para dejar sólo un matiz leve en ellas.
The wheels, although made of aluminum, have not
been exempt, especially the iron screws of these. For this I have applied a very
diluted wash and only in some areas, to leave only a slight nuance in them.
